Welcome to the club. I actually think the newer Savages might be a bit more reliable (espically on oil leaks) than the older models. My 2001 has had zero problems in the 1st 2500 miles. I did have the headlamp housing rattle and the loose throttle grip end cap, but you don't need a mechanic to fix minor annoyances like those.
